Tomorrow is `Talty's last day as a CV

Tue Jun 11, 2013, 8:57 AM

At first, when she told me that her Artisan Crafts CV term was ending soon I went through the five stages of grief.

Denial

Anger

Bargaining

Depression

Acceptance

When I finally came to my senses I realized that it's okay because we're still going to be friends forever
I  you ^Talty and thanks for everything that you did and still do for the Artisan Crafts community

Celebrating Diversity #23

Fri Jun 7, 2013, 9:49 AM
The idea behind the Celebrating Diversity Project is to post an article with deviations not from my area of expertise (Artisan Crafts) but from other Galleries that I almost never visit. This time I specifically searched for mediums that I enjoy but kind of forgot that I did.

Once again, I strongly encourage you to step out of your zone of comfort and take the time to discover or re-discover other types of art. The world is full of wonder and beauty, we just need to take the time and open our minds to see even more of it.

"If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear."
- Gene Roddenberry

Two months ago, we asked you the community to give us input on ways to merge, remove, add and retire sub-categories for easier browsing and submitting.

We were instructed to remove clutter and merge galleries rather than make more mess, so we gave priority to removing redundant galleries instead of creating more. We understand that many of you love new galleries and would be thrilled to have a new gallery for every single craft, but please understand that this is not possible. Please take a look at the current galleries and let us know if you think that any of them can be merged or is unnecessary.

We took all of your suggestions and put our brains together. This is the result that we are proposing, there's still time to leave your suggestions and propose new changes, so please feel free to do it.

 Proposed Changes

Anthro
  • to be moved to main Anthro Gallery
Architectural Models (no changes)
Basketry & Weavings (no changes)
Ceramics, Pottery & Clay
  • Merge Ornaments and Objects with Other (result: Ornaments and Other).
Costumery
  • "Costumery>Costumes" to be changed to "Costumery>Outfits" (less redundant and relevant to other sub-cats)
Culinary ArtDolls, Plushies & Custom Toys
  • Amigurumi" to be moved under "Needlework" instead of under "Dolls"
Folding & Papercraft (no changes)
Glass
  • Merge Ornaments and Objects with Other (result: Ornaments and Other).
Jewelry (no changes)
Leatherwork (no changes)
Metal Work
To add subcats
  • Armor & Chainmail
  • Swords, Knives & Weapons
  • Wire Works
  • Ornaments & Other
Miniatures (no changes)
Needlework
  • "Amigurumi" to be moved under "Needlework" instead of under "Dolls"
Other (no changes)
Textiles
  • Create a new "Felting" sub-cat (growing popularity will encompass needle-felting)
Woodworking
To add subcats
  • Carving
  • Wood Burning
  • Furniture
  • Other

Questions for you!

  • Please take a look at the current galleries. Do you think that any of them can be merged or is unnecessary?
  • It was suggested that the name "Leatherwork" doesn't encompass taxidermy, a subcat of this gallery. Please let us know if you can think of a better name for both crafts.

Best birthday weekend EVER!

Sun Mar 17, 2013, 5:38 PM

Oh you guize!
Before starting to talk about anything else I want to thank everyone that wrote me birthday wishes via messages and notes. You guys make my heart very happy! :la:

Family time~

So my birthday was on Friday the 15th; my family threw a little party for me and it was a lot of fun. Loïc and my god-daughter ran around each other all evening, it was quite adorable.  On Saturday I went to see my in-laws and dropped Loïc off to get babysat overnight.

Party rocking

Yesterday I invited a few friends to eat fondue and have a few drinks.... okay-okay maybe more than a few drinks. My head is pounding so much right now but I'm really happy too! I had the best time!

I posted this image on my facebook on Friday and the people that I invited over made it their mission to make my birthday song the most awkwardest moment ever. It was the longest drawn-out song in the history of all birthday songs being sung. It was hilarious.

I'm so tired now, It's 8:30pm and I think I'm going to bed.
:peace:

How was your weekend?

EDIT: You can read our proposal here: [link].
Please voice your opinion on this if you haven't spoken up yet or want to add something, your feedback is extremely important! (LEAVE YOUR INPUT ON THE NEWEST JOURNAL PLEASE).

Gallery Makeover Project

The Community Relations team will be working in the followings weeks to merge, remove, add and retire sub-categories. We're looking for input from the community to think about ways to make the categories less redundant and to simplify it's structure for easier browsing and submitting.

A new project?

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 6, 2013, 5:52 AM
Skin by =SimplySilent

Hello beautiful deviants,

I decided that I want to start sewing. Sure, I'll start with small projects, I'm not planning on making any wedding gowns just yet, lol!
My mother has two sewing machines, I'm going to borrow one of them. The one I'll borrow belonged to my great-grand mother, so it's something of an antique. It's really heavy, black and gorgeous! I've used it a bit when I was a child, so I'm confident that I'll be able to use it again.

Before starting any real project though, I want to shop around to find some original fabric, thread, buttons etc. Do you personally use any online store or seller? If so, I would love you to share them with me. It's much easier for me to shop online when my toddler is sleeping than bringing him to an actual store where chaos would surely ensue.

Also, I don't know if I told you guys but we bought our first house, we'll be moving on July 20th. I most likely won't start any sewing project until I'm all settled in. I need to start sorting and packing asap!

Thanks!
