Celebrating Diversity #18

Sat Jan 26, 2013, 11:01 AM
The beauty of art is that it can be shaped using different mediums. Whether it translates into magnificence, sorrow or amazement it always evokes a feeling inside of us.  Step outside of your comfort zone and go experience other types of art. Go randomly click on galleries that you've never explored before. It might turn out to be exactly what you needed to see.

"If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear."

Whatttttttttttt? that seems so strange to me since I've seen the UK map A LOT. But that might have to do with the fact that I took history classes in Uni.

:giggle: well Canada never came up in any of our history lessons in school and I dropped geography for History for my exams, i hated that class, it was all about volcano's all the time.

It's a lovely feature journal with wonderful art but I cannot help but be somewhat disappointed that you, as AC CV, didn't also include some of the amazing artisan crafts art we have on dA and am curious why you chose to omit them.

I'm sorry that you were disappointed with this feature, however my goal was to feature some art pieces from galleries that I don't visit as much as I should.

Yes, I eventually gathered that as ^pica-ae kindly explained the idea behind the journal as a reply to me here. I had misunderstood the intent behind the journal and thought that it was something else and as a result was surprised you hadn't included the AC gallery.

I'm sorry if I spoiled the journal for you - that was never my intent :)

Oh, I'm sorry that I didn't clarify the intent :D
I'm glad that ^pica-ae cleared that up for you.

It's ok - it's not always easy to make sure that what you have in mind comes across

That is the whole concept of the featured series for each CV: to actually avoid your "own" gallery. To open ourselves as CVs to other galleries too :)
Each of us posts regular feature articles from their respective gallery and this series is meant to break away from that and show our watchers, who usually come from the same area as the CV, what else is out there.

The starting article does explain this in a bit more detail [link] :)

It does but well... when you see your "own" CV not include it without explanation it is somewhat disappointing. The header used on this feature sounds like it's inviting the reader to look outside their own comfort zone, not that the creator of the feature is doing that. Most "diversity" style features look at specific groups: usually photography, digital and traditional arts, so with a feature like this it raises the expectation that the AC gallery will be included if only because of who created it.

I suppose that I'm most surprised because ^maytel is such a great CV that I didn't for a moment think she'd create a feature of this kind without promoting her own gallery too :)

In my opinion, the best way to invite readers to leave their comfort zone is to be a good example at it :)
And that means not to feature AC in this case

Well, I am glad you think so highly of her :aww:

That's fine - as I said (or tried to :) ) I'd totally misunderstood the intent behind the journal.

That I do :)
