Where do you draw inspiration for creating art?
Via osmosis. It's actually amazing (and annoying) the times inspiration strikes. It's never the moments when I have freedom to make any creation and am desperately trying to think of a cool idea. I might be doing fieldwork or browsing the internet or a book or at a restaurant and see a concept or a shape and I start wondering, “How could I make that out of cake?” or “How can I put my own spin on this cake/dish?” Half the time I forget them. Often I’ll be lying in bed about to fall asleep and something will hit me. I’m known to leap out of bed at 3am and scribble ideas down.

When we don't see enough of a particular art form, it is difficult for us to understand or appreciate it. This project aims to bring you features that you might not have seen otherwise from a variety of galleries around dA. For example, I tend to live and breathe photomanipulations and (to a lesser extent) digital art, and I really enjoyed taking a moment to browse the non-photomanipulation galleries for treasures. I found many, and I hope you will enjoy the features I have chosen.

Celebrating Diversity #1Welcome to this new series of Art Features! Even tho most of you are aware of the many many galleries and categories here on dA, I think most of us move in a sort of "comfort zone" between Galleries, Channels or Groups that provide us with a constant flow of new art. And sometimes we forget all the other great artforms, styles and media that are out of our "comfort zone". And today I want to step out of that warm and cuddly place and feature some awesome works from places on dA I don't usually visit!
Since this is the first entry, I thought I should explain it a bit more, so that is why there is more text in this article

Culinary ArtsCulinary Arts
Culinary is the art of preparing and/or cooking foods to be as pleasing for the palate as it is for the eye.
Not many types of art can claim to be as nourishing for your soul as they are for your body. Culinary arts is appreciated by everyone in the world because it is highly linked with our survival. Also, if you think about it, it is one of the most accessible forms of art around. You probably even subconsciously practised Culinary Arts several times without knowing it.
Example: someone told you to assemble a plate of cheeses, meats and breads? I'm sure you didn't just throw everything on a plate, somewhere in the back of your mind you styled it to your liking.

Style and photograph your piece
To be able to share your culinary art creations with the rest of the world, you need to be able to photograph it. The way you present your piece is important.

Celebrating Diversity #13In this issue of Celebrating Diversity, I would like to remind you of an amazing feeling...when you see a piece of art created in a medium or genre that you have little or no experience of working in, and it feels like you're witnessing something magical, something beyond your comprehension.
It's wonderful to revel in the joy of How do they do that? and find inspiration in the creations of other artists. So I challenge you to take a step outside of the galleries that you regularly browse and immerse yourself in the experience of indulging in something new.

Julia Margaret Cameron was a British Photographer born in 1815 and living until 1879. She's relatively unheard of though, despite the faces that she photographed and the developments she made in her short career (spanning just eleven years.) Unlike many modern photographers and prodigy's, Julia is quite unique in that she didn't start photographing until she was 48 years old and was given a camera as a gift. Her style was not appreciated in her time, but like many who have made an impact on society, she became more famous and recognized long after her death.

I was lucky enough last Summer, to be able to visit Julia's former home - Dimbola Lodge - on the Isle of Wight, England. It was here that I discovered the photographer and was both warmed and proud to find that a woman had made History with her

Celebrating Diversity #12This edition of Celebrating Diversity I want to focus on two extremes of art: Extremely detailed and realistic works and minimal and abstract art. Both tendencies or trends have their place and time in art and history and are appreciated by many people. Not always does one person like both, but to me personally, art has always been more about feeling, than about complexity. Something simple can touch me emotionally as well as something blasting with details. Art is just as individual as every human being!

The beauty of art is that it can be shaped using different mediums. Whether it translates into magnificence, sorrow or amazement it always evokes a feeling inside of us. Step outside of your comfort zone and go experience other types of art. Go randomly click on galleries that you've never explored before. It might turn out to be exactly what you needed to see.

Why we are Celebrating DIVERSITY!

This ongoing series of Art Features has been created to celebrate the huge diversity of submissions to dA. No gallery on dA is better than the other, they are only different.

Differences are good and healthy, they make our world colorful and enjoyable. It is good that we all have different und unique tastes and we should celebrate that! Instead of scorning something that is different, we have to accept, tolerate and appreciate it and the fact that it enrichens the world with yet another thing

that map of Canada is great, it's actually the first map i have ever seen of the place!

Whatttttttttttt? that seems so strange to me since I've seen the UK map A LOT. But that might have to do with the fact that I took history classes in Uni.

well Canada never came up in any of our history lessons in school and I dropped geography for History for my exams, i hated that class, it was all about volcano's all the time.
