The PhotoHunt chat, hosted by `AshleyxBrooke, is holding a special event on the 12th January at 14:00 EST. This tiny insignificant thing mildly displeases meI love browsing the Suggestions forum but am seriously blown away by how many times people post threads suggesting/requesting/demanding that dA alter the way the site works in order that they never have to see anything that isn't to their specific personal taste.
I'm not talking about the Mature Content filter or submissions with violate dA's policies here. I mean people expecting the entire site to change so that they don't ever encounter a thumbnail-sized image of a cat or My Little Pony or [insert other random object or concept here] while looking at the front page in Newest or Popular modes.
I find myself typing pretty much the same thing to these people on a regular basis, so thought it would be easier to simply make a journal about it that I can link to. So here it is.

Race for Life 2013
Hello all!
It's that time of year again when I am asking for your help in a cause that is close to my heart. Race for life is a 5K charity run raising money for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research do life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.
This is my 5th year in a row doing Race for Life, and every year it becomes more and more important to me. There are far too many people suffering with cancer; too many families, friends and individuals and the work Cancer Research do is so important to help find a cure.
This year, the lovely Kaylee (~CurvyLemon) and my sister Rachel (~racheljj) are joining me in the race- and I encourage any woman in the UK to sign up too!

Literature Previews, DDs, and YouIntroducing a new policy regarding Literature Gallery DD features.
While not everyone uses preview images and they're not technically part of the work, we're going to require that preview images be properly credited for future features. This does include preview images you've customized that use texture or other such resources.
An important note: Not all images are stock. If an image isn't stock and you want to use it as your preview, please make sure that you've obtained explicit permission from the artist. We will also accept previewed stories that were done for a picture-based prompt if the prompter asked permission to use those images. Of course, you'll need to link to the prompt in your comments.

PE: Stock, Resources and deviantART RelatedStock & Resources
I see Stock & Resources as a category of art on deviantART where the entire focus is on helping others and providing them with what they need. This helps artists of any medium! Photomanipulators for example rely heavily on the stock photos they find here. If you draw or paint, digitally or traditionally, many stock photos can be hugely helpful as reference, as can line art and textures. There's literature templates, fonts, fractal and vector resources, designs & patterns for artisans and crafters.. and then there's tutorials for any kind of art, and about deviantART itself.
So one great way to contribute something to the community and your fellow artists is to provide such resources!
We will not go into this in depth as it has its own Community Volunteers and Project Educate weeks that should help you get started!

My detailed DD guidelines

Hello beautiful deviants,
Here a few things to keep in mind to help increase your chances of accepted Daily Deviations suggestions.

I only take Artisan Craft and Traditional Art / Sculpture gallery suggestions, I cannot feature anything else.

Please send your Cosplay suggestions to ^pullingcandy.

I will not feature work that is blurry or with poor lighting. It doesn't have to be AMAZING photography, but it does need to be well presented.

Artists that already have more than 3 DDs most likely won't be featured (I sometimes make exceptions when they haven't been featured in a long time).

Deviations that are 2 years+ old won't be featured. Look in the artist's gallery and find something more recent. Odds are that the artist has improved since then and has a piece that reflects that.

Suggesting a DD

Send the suggestion via note, it should be titled "DD Suggestion".

ONE SUGGESTION PER NOTE (you can however include a few pieces from the same artist). Please include thumbnails (ie: :thumb###: ), NOT LINKS. Also, it helps if you include a brief comment on why you think the piece should receive attention from a wide audience.

Self suggestions are encouraged. Be proud of your work! If you do, please explain why you think it should be featured as a DD. If I decide to feature you, I won't let you know.

Send your suggestions to only ONE Community Volunteer!

When you disapprove

Remember that not everyone has the same taste, you may not understand my decision to feature some pieces but please be respectful to the artist and do not leave hurtful comments on his/her page.

Feel free to contact me via note and I will be happy to explain why I chose to feature that piece. Furthermore, send in your DD suggestions so that next time you might have a better chance of approving of the selection.

If I suggest my own deviation, and you feature it, how do I know if it is? Do I get a feedback or correspondence message, or do I just have to keep checking the Daily Deviation page?
